Dan Bazzani, former head coach of the Niagara Falls High
School (NFHS) Boy’s Varsity Basketball team and lifelong Niagara County resident, is running for the 138th New York State Assembly seat to
bring hope and pride back to the Niagara
Falls area. Bazzani, the 2005 USA Today High School Basketball Coach of
the Year and former basketball coach of Niagara County Community College (NCCC)
and the University at Buffalo (UB), recently retired from teaching physical
education and coaching at NFHS. During
his tenure as coach for NFHS, Bazzani led his team to an amazing three
consecutive state championship games and finished the 2005 season with the #1
ranked team in the nation. Building teams and working together for a common good are
traits Bazzani has shown throughout his life.
In the 70s, Bazzani built NCCC into a national basketball powerhouse, in
the early 80s he reached across the aisle facilitating bipartisan cooperation
as a four year member of the Niagara Falls City Council, and most recently led the
NFHS basketball team to victory. In all
aspects of his life, Bazzani has proven his ability to bring people with
different views together to accomplish lofty goals. Active within his community, Bazzani sat on the Board of Trustees
for the Niagara Falls YMCA and is the Athletic Director for the Niagara Falls School
District.
Because of his work both on and off the court, Bazzani has twice been
awarded the Niagara Falls Memorial Center Good Neighbor Award. Dan and Beverley, his wife of 24 years, make their home in
the city of Niagara Falls. Their daughter, Alexandra, starts her
freshman year at UB in the fall.
